Known as "the epistle of
joy," the book of Philippians is seemingly propelled by a
theme of spiritual delight in Jesus Christ, the ultimate
value. Within every chapter of the letter can be found
a clear reference to the author's personal experience with,
or the church's responsibility to cultivate,
gospel-motivated joy (1:4, 18, 25; 2:2, 17-18; 3:1; 4:1,
10).
