Our Sermons

Because "Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of Christ" (Romans 10:17) and because "All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness," the faithful proclamation of Holy Scripture is at the core of all other ministries at Crystal Valley Baptist Church.  With a heavy conviction to "teach what accords with sound doctrine" (Titus 2:1), our pastors are committed to verse-by-verse exposition of the Bible as a primary means of congregational instruction.  The following is an online archive of our sermons, free for the downloading.

Topical Messages, Special Addresses, and Lectures
"Expositional Preaching" (a form of preaching that expounds upon the meaning of one specific text or passage of Scripture) is the normal approach of preaching for our pastors.  However, on holidays and special occasions, "Topical Sermons" may sometimes be preached for the benefit of the congregation as often as it is appropriate.  This "series" is a collection of those messages, special addresses, and lectures.

The Beginning of Everything:  An Exposition of Genesis      2007-08
The book of Genesis is a book of beginnings. The origins of the universe, life, humanity, marriage, sin, language, government, civilization, the elect, and God's plan of redemption can all be found in the book of Genesis.  The book of Genesis is also a book of foundations. It serves as a pillar for all other theology and doctrine to be discovered in the Scripture.  Without it, an accurate understanding of the gospel is impossible.

The Beginning of the Gospel:  An Exposition of Mark     2007-08
When you read the gospel of Mark, you discover the focus is on the work and ministry of Jesus Christ.  Personal details about Jesus' life are kept to a minimum.  You don't find a lengthy explanation of His birth.  You don't read a detailed chronology of His family.  There aren't even that many teaching discourses.  The bulk of the gospel of Mark is an account of the outreach and ministering of our Savior.   Jesus didn't just preach, He practiced what he preached.

The Beginning of the Church:  An Exposition of Acts     2009-10
A sequel of sorts to Luke's Gospel, the book of Acts continues where "the narrative of things that were accomplished" (Luke 1:1) by Jesus left off.  Following His ascension to heaven, the Lord sends His Holy Spirit to the church and sends His church into the world.  Armed with the gospel, God's people (with Peter and Paul's example leading them) spread like wildfire across the Roman world.

The Joys of Christian Living:  An Exposition of Philippians     2007
Known as "the epistle of joy," the book of Philippians is saturated by a theme of spiritual delight in Jesus Christ.  Within every chapter of the letter can be found a clear reference to the author's personal experience with, or the church's responsibility to cultivate, gospel-motivated joy (1:4, 18, 25; 2:2, 17-18; 3:1; 4:1, 10).

Life Hidden with Christ:  An Exposition of Colossians     2008-09
Epaphras, a minister of the church in Colosse (4:12), has reported to the Apostle Paul that the gospel has indeed taken root in Colosse (1:6).  Paul responds with a letter of prayer, encouragement, and instruction for the new believers as they learn to live a life "hidden with Christ" (3:3).  What is a life hidden with Christ?  It is a life of increasing maturity, sound doctrine, dependence on the sufficiency of Christ, holiness, unity in the church, and a Christ-centered home life.
