Our passion is to see new generations glorify God.  In an effort to make this passion a reality, we turn to the Bible as our chief instrument and guide for student ministry.  "What was/is God's plan for raising new generations for Himself?"  "What model does God propose we use for student discipleship?"  The Bible holds the answers.
The following is a summary of what we believe the Bible directs us to do in the department of student ministry; that is, in our approach to children, youth, and collegiate discipleship.

We Are to be Parent-Driven
Following the giving of the Ten Commandments, God references the central vehicle He intends to use to transfer His holy statutes from one generation to the nextHe references parents.  Those with children have the responsibility of training their children to "Love the Lord their God with all their heart and with all their soul and with all their might." (Deut 6:6)

"And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart.  You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise."                                                       Deuteronomy 6:7

At Crystal Valley Baptist Church, we encourage parents to re-claim their rightful role as the primary shepherds of their children's souls a role all too often delegated to the hired "professionals" of the church.  To this end, we devote attention to equipping parents with the tools and accountability they need to faithfully undertake this sacred
responsibility.

We Are to be Congregation-Supported
In addition to healthy parental involvement, the Scripture also points to the local church as a primary means of support for parents in the work of student discipleship.  In Titus 2, Paul admonishes his younger colleague-in-the-faith to instruct the older men and women of the Cretean churches to take an active role in raising the next generation for Jesus Christ.

"But as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine.  Older men are to be sober-minded, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness.  Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine.  They are to teach what is good, and so train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.  Likewise, urge the younger men to be self-controlled.  Show yourself in all respects be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us.                                                                                                                                 −Titus 2:1-8

Though the Bible never commissions the church to develop "student focused programs" and outreach projects, it does commission us to develop and promote mentorship-style relationships between the older and younger generations.  In affect, the Bible instructs us to deliberately cultivate relationships within the church to help support parents in student discipleship.

At Crystal Valley Baptist Church, we seek to bridge the gap between students and adults by creating opportunity for the two to interact and serve together.  In addition, we seek to equip adults to voluntarily disciple and influence students in the church by personally involving themselves in scheduled student activities, as well as the students' lives themselves.

        Children's Ministry
According to Psalm 127:4, "Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one's youth."  In reference to this verse it has also been said, "Unless arrows are properly aimed, they will never reach their target."  At Crystal Valley Baptist Church it is our aim to "launch" each of our kids in a direction that pleases God.  To that end, much attention is spent in laying an easy-to-understand gospel foundation.

      Youth Ministry
Being a teenager is hard.  Being a Christian teenager is even harder.  In a culture determined to bombard our students with vile immorality and sharp idolatry, the youth ministry of Crystal Valley Baptist Church is seeking to cultivate a refuge for students to escape within which they may unashamedly celebrate the riches of Jesus Christ.

        Collegiate Ministry
Perhaps the fastest growing area of Crystal Valley Baptist Church is our collegiate ministry.  With a hunger for spiritual substance, and a growing restlessness for biblical reform on the local church level, the fellowship of Crystal Valley Baptist is becoming a humble oasis for many young adults seeking such priorities in the Little Rock community.
